UK Day 3

We took the train from London Paddington to Windsor & Eton Central, with a quick transfer at Slough, and arrived in about 40 minutes. The journey was smooth and convenient, and from the station, it was just a short walk to Windsor Castle. Alternatively, we could have taken a direct train from London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside, which takes about 55 to 60 minutes—a slightly longer but also scenic route. Either way, Windsor makes for an easy and rewarding day trip from London.

We spent the day exploring Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and a favorite residence of the British monarch. After a short train ride from London, we arrived at the castle and were immediately struck by its impressive architecture and royal grandeur. We toured the magnificent State Apartments, rich with art and history, and visited St. George’s Chapel, the site of royal weddings and burials, including Queen Elizabeth II. We also caught the Changing of the Guard, adding to the regal atmosphere. Surrounded by beautifully maintained grounds and historic stone walls, our visit to Windsor Castle offered a memorable glimpse into centuries of British royal tradition.

After visiting windsor castle, we caught a train to Oxford, a journey that took about an hour. Oxford is renowned for its prestigious University, which dates back to the 12th century, and its stunning colleges, such as Christ Church, known for its architectural beauty and its connection to Harry Potter. The city is also home to iconic landmarks like the Radcliffe Camera and the Bodleian Library, one of Europe’s oldest libraries, where millions of historic texts are preserved. Visitors can explore the Ashmolean Museum, the oldest university museum, or take a stroll through the picturesque University Parks and Oxford Botanic Garden. The charming Covered Market offers a taste of local life, while the historic Eagle and Child pub, once frequented by literary giants like J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, provides a glimpse into Oxford's vibrant cultural history.
